Chapter History

In the Spring of 2009, Elizabeth Mora began a journey at Texas A&M University to find a sorority that encompassed the characteristics of success and advancement of the Hispanic community. Existing sororities on campus did not fit the characteristics she sought. Upon further research, she came across Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority, Inc. and fell in love with the sorority’s initiative that promoted its’ members to participate in community service and events with purpose and significance.

In the Fall semester of 2009, the expansion process began and great efforts were made in bringing Gamma Phi Omega to Texas A&M. In the Summer of 2010, Lisa Ramos became the advisor for the prospective interest group. In the Fall of 2010, the women were introduced to the Expansion Director, Andrea Keller, as well as alumnae Anette Soto and Joanne Reyes, who began assisting the interested women in the expansion process. The interest group achieved recognition status as a student organization on April 22, 2011 at Texas A&M University. On February 4, 2013, the group was granted membership into the Multicultural Greek council.

During the Spring 2014 semester, Kassandra Peña, Dessiree Martinez, Elizabeth Castillo, Xochitl Colunga-Alonso, and Melissa Gutierrez began their journey as Noble founders. From the beginning, the women were given a tremendous amount of support from sisters across the country. Although the five women were already well acquainted with one another, they grew together and found in each other the support, motivation, and genuine friendship that only sisterhood can offer. The women were challenged, but with each obstacle they overcame, they grew in confidence together. On April 26, 2014, they achieved sisterhood to the most prestigious organization: Gamma Phi Omega.

The women reached their ultimate goal of bringing Gamma Phi Omega to Texas A&M, making them the second successful expansion effort in Texas. Each founder experienced the passion that ignited the flame in their hearts to expand this sorority to Texas A&M, and through the hard work of the Noble founders, that goal was achieved.
